Trash art in Guatemala : NPR

Far postcards are a weekly series in which the international NPR team shares moments in their lives and works in the world.
I was taking my 12 -year -old daughter during her very first trip abroad, in Antigua, Guatemala. International trips always bring a new perspective, and this was particularly true because I saw a different country through his wide and very full eyes.
By visiting a museum of indigenous textiles in a city a few kilometers from the city, I spotted this pretty hanging planter in the shape of a bird. By getting closer, I realized that it was entirely made of an old tire. This is an ingenious example of garbage reuse to do something beautiful. And it is a reminder that culture is everywhere if you let your eye linger.
