Trooper-involved shooting near middle school in Newton County

A person was shot outside Porterdale in Newton County, the Department of Public Safety said Friday afternoon.

Channel 2’s Audrey Washington was on scene for Channel 2 Action News at 6:00 p.m. and saw a massive police presence.

A Georgia State Trooper was involved but was not shot. The incident happened near Oak Landing Drive near Georgia 162.

The person was taken for medical treatment by air from a landing site near Liberty Middle School.

The Newton County Sheriff’s Office said police units were at Liberty Middle School to assist with the medevac of the injured person.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is investigating.
