Missouri Republican Senator Josh Hawley announced Thursday that the Ministry of Energy (DOE) cancels his Grain Belt Express project.

Hawley’s X Post announcing the DOE decision to cancel the project followed a conversation with President Donald Trump and energy secretary Chris Wright. The post also called the grain belt expressing a “green scam” which “costs billions of taxpayers”. (Related: Exclusive: The Trump urges report to slam the closure of green energy in signature right)

The Grain Belt Express was a transmission line project of $ 11 billion designed to transport electricity from wind farms to Kansas through Missouri and Illinois to Indiana. “Energy demand increases – our network needs an upgrade,” says the project website: “no other project saves consumers more”.

The Grain Belt Express line was faced with the investigation by the Missouri republican prosecutor’s office, Andrew Bailey in early July. A press release from the Bailey office said that the investigation came from “general concerns concerning misleading complaints and history of dishonesty”.

“We will not allow a private company to trample property rights and to induce regulators misleading for a lure and a change which serves interests outside the state instead of the Missourians,” said Bailey in the press release on July 2.

The investigation, a request for a civil investigation (CID), underlined the dependence on the cereal belt expresses “speculative and possibly fraudulent hypotheses”, including a compound carbon tax which “has never been promulgated by the Missouri or the federal law and does not exist”.

The use of this fictitious “carbon tax” in the projection of the supposed advantages of the “more than probably” project inflated the predicted value to Missouri consumers, according to the official letter from Bailey to the president of the Missouri public service commission. The expected advantages included $ 52 billion in energy savings over 15 years, according to the Grain Belt Express website.

Hawley’s announcement follows several Trump administration cuts to expensive green energy projects since its entry into office.
