NASCAR to race on U.S. Naval base in Coronado in 2026

Nascar returns to southern California, only his cars will run in the streets of Coronado and not on an oval in Fontana. The car racing circuit of cars announced on Wednesday that it would organize a series of three -day races from June 19 to 21, ending with a race of the Nascar Cup Series on the American naval base in Coronado.
Nascar did not run in southern California last year for the first time since 1997, with the exception of 2021, when the calendar was hampered by the coronavirus pandemic. During a large part of this time, the races took place at the Auto Club Speedway in Fontana, but this track was demolished in 2023 to make room for a giant warehouse complex. Nascar has kept part of the gallery and hoped to build an oval track of half a million on the site, but this project blocked and it is unlikely that it is relaunched.
Nascar also ran on a temporary oval of a quarter of a mile on the floor of the Colosseum, but this event was also abandoned.
The Coronado race next summer, which has materialized after years of meticulous negotiation, is the first Nascar event to be organized at an active military base. He is synchronized to commemorate the 250th anniversary of the US Navy and will offer a race weekend, including a race in the XFINITY series and a CRAFTSMAN TRUCK SERIES event.
Nascar directed street class races in the Chicago subsidy park of 2023-25, but this event will not return in 2026, making the Coronado race the only street race on the calendar next year.
“Nascar embodies the best of the American spirit by speed, precision and an inflexible pursuit of excellence,” said Marine Secretary John C. Phelan in a press release. “By organizing a race on the Naval Air Station North Island, the birthplace of naval aviation, it is not only a historic first, it is a powerful tribute to the values we share: Grain, teamwork and love of the country.
“We are proud to open our doors to the American people, to honor those who wear the uniform and to inspire the next generation to move forward and to serve something more than themselves.”
Naval Base Coronado, known as West Coast Quarterdeck, is a consortium of nine Navy installations which extends from the island of San Clemente, 80 kilometers long Beach, to the Mountain Warfare training center in 50 miles east of San Diego.
“The organization of one of the first American automotive events on this historic basis reflects our partnership with the local community and our pride shared in the country’s heritage,” said Captain Loren Jacobi, commander of the Coronado naval base. “We have the privilege of highlighting the dedication of our sailors alongside Nascar de Nascar while we celebrate our 250th anniversary.”
The Nascar San Diego logo includes a super Hornet F / A-18E / F, which is recognized as being only piloted by the US Navy. The three stars of the logo signify the land, the sea and the air, which represents the navy as the only branch of the military to operate in the three spaces. The Arc represents the mission style architecture found in San Diego. The scratches at the bottom of the logo represent the four largest branches of armed force in the United States: Air Force, US Army, US Marine Corps and US Navy.
Tickets for the Nascar San Diego 2026 weekend will be on sale this fall.
