A Borzoi dog melted on the hearts on social networks after a canine video trying to sneak in all the hugs of their owner has become viral.

The comforting post shared on Instagram on Monday under the user name @oliversophiezoi shows a series of puppy clips trying to be included in each of the hugs of their owners. “The soul is so strong that our dog must join each hug”, reads the text in essence in the clip. The legend says: “What have we done in the world to deserve dogs?!?”

While the clip puppy clearly asks to be embraced, most dogs do not like this type of physical affection. Vet Help Direct says that for dogs, being embraced may look like a restraint, trigger a “fight or leak” response because of the stress that this causes them.

Dogs can feel trapped in a hug, which can cause defensive bites – often in the face, especially when the embrace implies close contact. This risk makes it particularly important to teach children not to kiss or physically hold dogs.

A study on canine stress signals revealed that around 81% of dogs showed signs of discomfort during a hug, like turning off the head, freeze, lick the lips, yawn, flatten the ears or expose the whites with their eyes.

Only 8% of puppies seemed to enjoy the embrace, while 11% seemed indifferent.

Personality and past experiences also play a role; In fact, dogs with history of anxiety or bad socialization can react more negatively than others.

Despite their aversion to hugs, dogs enjoy the affection according to their own conditions. Many puppies like to be caressed or snuggle up with their owners, as long as they are free to move away. Observation of their body language is the key to understanding their comfort levels.
