Trump calls Iran war ‘a little excursion’ that will end ‘soon’

DORAL, Fla. — President Donald Trump on Monday called the war in Iran “short-term” and a “small excursion,” suggesting the 10-day conflict rocking the Middle East may be nearing an end.
Trump made the remarks during a speech to House Republicans and donors at his namesake compound outside Miami. Republicans are meeting over the next three days to discuss their legislative agenda and campaign strategy for November’s midterm elections, which have been upended by the war in Iran.
“This was just an excursion into something that needed to be done. We’re close to finishing it,” Trump said.
His appearance before Republicans came a day after crude oil prices climbed above $100 a barrel for the first time since July 2022.
“This is going to end soon,” Trump said at a news conference.
He did not, however, set a timetable for the end of the war when asked for details.
