Trump Cancels Release of Crucial Economic Report to Hide His Failures

Are Americans supposed to think that the Trump administration’s cancellation of economic reports is somehow a good sign for the economy?
The Bureau of Economic Analysis announcement On Monday, it officially canceled the release of the advance estimate of gross domestic product (GDP) for the third quarter of 2025. The Trump administration had previously delayed the release, originally scheduled for October 30, due to the government shutdown, but it now appears to have been scrapped altogether.
Last week, the Ministry of Labor canceled releasing its monthly jobs report for October and the Bureau of Labor Statistics scrapped its own inflation report.
Karoline Leavitt, White House press secretary blame Democrats two weeks ago for such delays, saying the liberal party “may have permanently damaged the federal statistical system.” She hinted at further cancellations, saying October data “will definitely be altered.”
The Trump administration’s decision to be stingy about releasing economic data comes amid concerns that President Donald Trump’s policies may not be so good for the economy. Trump’s mass deportation plan is expected to reduce GDP by 4.2 to 6.8 percent, according to the American Immigration Council. Trump’s reciprocal tariffs are also expected to put pressure on GDP, according to the Tax Foundation.
If Trump wants to challenge these claims, the government may want to start releasing actual data.
The BEA also pushed for the release of another report that tracks consumers’ income, spending and savings. This report will now be published on December 5. Three other reports on 2024 economic data “will be postponed.”
The Commerce Department previously released that the U.S. economy contracted 0.5% in the first quarter, then grew at a rate of 3.8% in the second quarter, leaving first-half GDP with an annual growth rate of about 1.66%, according to Fox Business.
