Dems Rip DeSantis For ‘Raiding Hurricane Response Resources’ At ‘Alligator Alcatraz’

On Wednesday, the best Democrats in Florida published puffed responses following a TPM report which detailed how the Governor of the State of Sunshine, Ron Desantis, diverted the resources of “disaster preparation” in the precipitation to build the detention camp “Alligator Alcatraz”.
The representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL), who visited the site earlier this month and then decried the conditions there, sent a statement to TPM which exploded all aspects of the project.
“Desantis already operates under a cloud of corruption when it comes to stealing dollars from taxpayers. It is therefore not surprising that it siphon and creates gaps in our preparation funds for hurricanes for this boondoggy, then the public hiding, or that it distributed contracts to donors to build this monument to a regular and denial process, “said Wasserman Schultz. “This internment camp is a scandalously unnecessary stroke of advertising, designed to injure immigrants and distract imprudent republican policies which will double the ranks of uninsured Florida.”
The president of the Florida Democratic Party, Nikki Fried, also questioned the objective of the establishment and the fact that the emergency equipment was withdrawn from the site.
“Ron Desantis plays with the life of the Floridians. Entertaining critical emergency communication equipment during the hurricanes season is not only irresponsible – it is dangerous,” said Fried in a statement at TPM. “The first stakeholders need all the tools available to them to save lives. Instead, the Governor takes a descent on response resources to hurricanes for political games. ”
The TPM report was based on an in -depth analysis of contracts related to the construction and functioning of the controversial detention camp. We identified $ 19,983,785.03 in contracts and invoices assigned to nine different companies. Eight of these companies were not previously known for being involved in the project. One of the contracts was created on July 1 and scheduled for $ 499,869.60 to pay in Baker’s Electronics & Communications Inc. for an “Atlas Trunk Radio system”. This platform is often used by public security agencies for critical and emergency communications.
The contract specified that the atlas systems “deployed” in the detention camp had been “withdrawn from the disaster preparation platform” [sic]. The document also indicated that, following this diversion, the system had to “be filled with a back to prevent a response gap during the hurricane season given the unknown duration of the operation of the detention center”. In Florida, the hurricanes season takes place from June 1 to November 30. The Desantis office, which was listed as the contract responsible for the contract, did not respond to a request for comments.
“Alligator Alcatraz” is one of Desantis’ efforts to support the “mass deportation” agenda of President Donald Trump. Florida is based on the initial expenses of the project constructed in a hurry, which would cost $ 450 million a year. The previous reports of Miami Herald exposed how the donors of Desantis are among the sellers who obtained contracts to work on the effort. The contracts discovered by TPM show how there was a burst of expenses, including “rush” costs and how the work is underway, even if prisoners have already been brought to the site.
Wasserman Schultz and Fried were both among the most frank criticisms of the establishment. In interviews, Wasserman Schultz described horrible conditions that she saw in the camp, including “wall on wall” wrapped. She called for the closure of the site. On Monday, the state of State announced that it had submitted a request for official public files “in search of all the documents linked to state contracts behind the internment camp known as” Alligator Alcatraz “.
