Trump Dangles Fresh Federal Funds To Lure 9 Universities Into Backing Agenda
The Trump administration has offered nine universities that would give them an advantage over other schools to receive federal funding.
The Brown University, the University of Pennsylvania (UPENN), the Dartmouth College, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Vanderbilt University, the University of Southern California (USC), the University of Texas in Austin (UT), the University of Virginia (UVA) and the University of Arizona all sent Wednesday contracts for five years Exchange of preferential treatment in access to federal funds, the Wall Street Journal reported Thursday. The compact agreement for academic excellence in higher education is supposed to report to the students and communities of schools that they are determined to maintain freedom of expression and to a “dynamic market of ideas on the campus”.
The nine universities that have received the proposals represent only the first round which will be invited to sign the agreement. They have been specifically selected because the administration considers that they are “good actors” who are open to change, according to WSJ.
The White House and the Ministry of Education did not respond to the request for comments from the Daily Call News Foundation.

Universities that accept the agreement will receive “several positive advantages”, such as “substantial and significant federal subsidies”, promises the memo, according to WSJ. Although the subsidies granted to universities are not exclusive to them, schools that report the memo will be priority in grant decisions and will receive invitations to the events of the White House and to discussions with administration officials.

Failure to comply with the rules agreed after signing the contract could lead to the constraint to return part of the grant it received. Universities are not required to sign the agreement and will not be punished for decreasing; However, they will lose the proposed advantages.
“Higher education establishments are free to develop models and values other than those” indicates the service note, according to WSJ.
Some of the universities that have been offered the agreement have previously been in the administration’s reticle. Upenn concluded an agreement with the federal government in July after being targeted for allowing a man to compete and change in the same room as women. Brown has entered into an agreement of $ 50 million with the administration later the same month after losing $ 510 million in grants for allegedly failed to combat anti -Semitism and to continue using diversity, equity and inclusion (ICE) initiatives.
