Shohei Ohtani leaves pitching start because of cramping, Dodgers go on to lose to Reds

Cincinnati – The Dodgers lost the match on Wednesday evening.
What was more important, however, was that they did not lose their double -meaning star.
During the 5-2 dodgers defeat against the Reds of Cincinnati at the Great American Ball Park, Shohei Ohtani left the mound alongside a fourth round coach with what the team said later was only cracking – a disturbing scene in the moment, quickly mitigated by an advertisement of apparently mild injuries.
Ohtani remained in the game as a designated striker, going 0 for 5 in the night.
The rest of the Dodgers programming did not do much better, with a circuit from Freddie Freeman at the top of the fourth round representing their only score.
It was a half-manic later that the fear of Ohtani’s injuries occurred.
After abandoning a single round in his first three images during a hot and humid night at 90 degrees in Cincinnati, Ohtani lost his command and looked significantly uncomfortable following a single at the top of the fourth.
He walked Tyler Stephenson on four throws, two of whom have missed so much that they exceeded the receiver Will Smith for wild land.
He started his next striker, Spencer Steer, with two other bullets.
This encouraged the manager Dave Roberts, the chief athletic coach Thomas Albert and the interpreter Will Ireton to come to the mound, where the four spoke while the rest of the inner field gathered around them.
“You can see him strike in a way his hip, trying to relax him,” said Roberts. “Right now, [it was] Very concerning, because I did not know what it was. »»
After a few moments, Ohtani then headed for the canoe, but not the clubhouse, to end its release after 51 season launches.
“I just saw a funky throw, the follow -up doesn’t look good; I think it was on the one just before I got out,” said Roberts. “And then he launched another land, and I simply did not see the finish in the right direction. So I came out.”
Back in the canoe, however, Ohtani assured Dodgers staff that he only made cramps and that he would be able to finish the game as a striker.
“When you hear cramps, then I feel much better,” said Roberts. “He said it was humidity. So I feel better knowing.”
On Wednesday was only the seventh start of the season for Ohtani, which was limited to DH’s functions for the first two and a half months of the season while finishing his recovery from a second career operation by Tommy John, which he suffered towards the end of the 2023 campaign.
It was also the first two -way star that launched the fourth round, after launching a round in each of its first two outings, two sleeves in the next two, and two others in its last pair of appearances.
“The right thing about today’s release is that my number of land was where I wanted it to be,” said Ohtani. “It’s a step forward.”

At the start of Wednesday’s match, Ohtani did not use his 100 MPH quick ball as often as usual, opting rather for sweepers on more than half of his throws. It did not seem to have much effect on its results. After Gavin Lux has doubled to lead the match, and Elly de la Cruz brought him home with only one, Ohtani posted Zeros in the second and third heats, removing eight of his 10 following strikers while accumulating four sticks to the stick.
“I didn’t feel really well, to be honest, physically in the past few days,” said Ohtani, in the middle of the stifling summer conditions along the banks of the Ohio river. “I have a day off tomorrow. So I can’t wait to recover and see what I feel. ”
Roberts said he is expecting Ohtani to have his next start next Wednesday.
“It simply did not seem that there was an advantage in obliging it [tonight]”Added Roberts.
After leaving the fourth, the Reds marked one of the inherited runners that Ohtani left behind, giving him a final line of three sleeves, two points, five strokes, two steps and four sticks in the stick. His season time is now 2.40 in 15 rounds.
The score remained equally 2-2 to the bottom of the eighth, when Steer struck a triple lift of two Emmet Sheehan. In the blow of 11 strokes, two out-cuts, Steer remained alive after Andy Pages dropped a ball at the fly against the wall of the left field in foul territory.
“Andy did an excellent job for us,” said Roberts. “It’s just a piece that I know he wants to have returned and we did not do.”
Indeed, Steer then charged the dodgers with a 403 -foot trip to the center, where James Outman climbed the wall and kept the ball in the game, but failed to guarantee the taking of what would have been the round of the Channel.
“This is a piece that I did before, so I have the impression that I should have caught it,” said Outman about what would have been a strong time rejection. “In a way, he jumped and missed him in the air.”
The loss prevented the Dodgers (63-46) from finishing what would have been their first standard scan since the beginning of July. It ended a disappointing month who saw the team go only 10-14, narrowing its lead in the West National League at only three games.
However, given the concern that initially accompanied the early release of Ohtani as a launcher, the evening could have been much worse.
Dodgers are now entering the deadline for trade which still needs a right -hander lift, and potentially another striker to complete their range – but also know that their double -way star seems to be ok.
“I have no concerns,” said Roberts about Ohtani.
