The white house press secretary Karoline Leavitt announced on Thursday that President Donald Trump received a diagnosis of chronic venous insufficiency, which she described as “benign and commune condition”.

Leavitt shared a note from Trump’s doctor at the request of the president to journalists during a White House press briefing on Thursday.

According to Leavitt, it reads as follows:

In recent weeks, President Trump has noted a slight swelling in the bottom legs. In accordance with routine medical care and by abundance of prudence, this concern was fully evaluated by the White House medical unit. The president has undergone a complete examination, including diagnostic vascular studies. Venous doppler ultrasounds of the bilateral lower limbs have been carried out and revealed chronic venous insufficiency, a benign and common disease, in particular in individuals over 70 years old. There was no evidence of deep venous thrombosis or arterial disease.

There was no signs of kidney disorders, heart failure or “systemic disease”, according to Leavitt.

“An echocardiogram has also been carried out and confirmed a normal heart structure and function. No sign of heart failure, renal failure or systemic disease has been identified,” she said.

The results of the president’s laboratory tests, including complete blood numbering, a metabolic panel and a coagulation profile, among other tests, “were within normal limits”, according to Leavitt.

Leavitt has also recognized bruises at the top of the president’s hand, which, according to her, comes from the frequent handshake and the use of aspirin.

“This complies with minor irritation of soft tissue from the hand of the frequent hand and the use of aspirin, which is taken within the framework of a standard cardiovascular prevention scheme. This is a well-known and benign side effect of aspirin therapy,” she said.

Johns Hopkins Medicine says that chronic venous insufficiency “is not a serious threat to health”, although it can cause pain. The condition is when the veins of the leg find it difficult to bring the blood back into the heart, causing swelling of the legs, according to Johns Hopkins Medicine.

Leavitt said Trump “remains in excellent health”.
