Trump Directs Cabinet to Designate Antifa As a Foreign Terrorist Organization – RedState
President Trump today closed the “Antifa Roundtable” at the White House by ordering his Cabinet to take action to designate Antifa as a “foreign terrorist organization.” The roundtable included a wide variety of testimony on Antifa activities, and my colleague Jennifer Oliver O’Connell has all the details in Trump draws national attention to domestic terrorism with “Antifa roundtable” at WH – RedState.
Trump summarized the meeting this way:

REPORTER: Will you work with your administration as secretary of state, will you work with your administration to designate it as a foreign terrorist organization?
TRUMP: Antifa?
JOURNALIST: A foreign terrorist organization.
TRUMP (to someone at the table): Well, has that been done? Pretty close, right? Would you like to see this happen?
[MARCO RUBiO, I think]: Yes, Mr. President.TRUMP: Do you think that would help?
[RUBIO]: They have strangers [unintelligible] all over Western Europe…TRUMP: I think that’s the kind of thing I’d like to do. [Turns to someone else] Do you agree? If you agree, I agree, let’s do it. Okay, let’s do it. Marco will take care of it.
JOURNALIST: Mr. President…
TRUMP: It’s international, you mean, international… That sounds good to me.
JOURNALIST: Foreign terrorist organization.
TRUMP: Steve, are you okay with that?
STEPHEN MILLER: Yes, it’s true that there are many foreign links and I think that would be a very valuable step to take.
TRUMP: I think so too.
It took time. As I documented in Antifa Might Have Cooked Its Own Goose – RedState, the narrative the left is trying to push that Antifa is an “idea” and has no organization is utter hogwash. The websites have phone numbers in several counties for people wanting to affiliate with Antifa. Some national chapters of Antifa have applications for membership, which very few ideas do. Video from Portland, Oregon, and Broadview, Illinois, clearly demonstrates that there is a chain of command among the rioters. The fact that ICE agents faced a complex attack in Illinois over the weekend (ICE Agents Suffer Large-Scale Coordinated Assault in Illinois; Attacker Injured by ICE – RedState) shows that the groups have some organizational, training and reconnaissance capabilities.
Trump has already designated Antifa as a domestic terrorist organization (President Trump Makes It Official: Antifa are Domestic Terrorists – RedState), but this is more of a symbolic decision than one with real consequences. Calling them an international terrorist organization brings a world of hurt.
It’s more important than ever. Antifa is NOT a “domestic terrorist organization”, it is a FOREIGN and INTERNATIONAL terrorist organization, far more dangerous than the Houthis or Hamas. This would open Antifa’s finances and communications to cutting-edge surveillance and make terrorism-related enhancements to all convictions. The idea of living life with a terrorism conviction will deter many casual street soldiers.
This is a long overdue decision, and I hope Attorney General Bondi and FBI Director Patel make it their top priority.
