Trump fires Pam Bondi as attorney general after Epstein files backlash in second high-profile cabinet ousting in weeks

ATTORNEY General Pam Bondi has been fired after a tumultuous tenure at the Department of Justice, including her handling of the Epstein files, and a series of failed prosecutions of former officials targeted by Donald Trump.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche will serve as acting attorney general until Trump nominates a permanent replacement.
She becomes the second cabinet member in a month to get the axe from Trump.
Former Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem was fired from her post on March 5.
Bondi was oustered during a Trump in the Oval Office shortly before his speech on the war in Iran, sources told Fox News.

Pam Bondi announces all the Epstein files have now been RELEASED to the public
“Pam Bondi is a Great American Patriot and a loyal friend, who faithfully served as my Attorney General over the past year. Pam did a tremendous job overseeing a massive crackdown in Crime across our Country, with Murders plummeting to their lowest level since 1900,” Trump wrote.
“We love Pam, and she will be transitioning to a much needed and important new job in the private sector, to be announced at a date in the near future, and our Deputy Attorney General, and a very talented and respected Legal Mind, Todd Blanche, will step in to serve as Acting Attorney General.”
Bondi, who has served as who has served as Trump’s attorney general since January 2025, came under fire for her handling of the Epstein files.
Congress passed a bill to release the Epstein files after Bondi repeatedly refused to do so.
At a fiery hearing in February, Democratic lawmakers accused the Department of Justice of engaging in a “coverup” and failing to release millions of additional files related to Epstein.
She was also criticized for improperly appointing federal prosecutors.
Bondi was to have bypassed congressional approval for the appointment of three New Jersey prosecutors set to replace former state attorney general Alina Habba.
While federal prosecutors indicated several of Trump’s political enemies at Bondi’s direction, including James Comey, a former FBI director, and Letitia James, the New York attorney general, the cases were dismissed.
While Blanche will serve as acting attorney general, Trump is reportedly considering Environmental Protection Agency Director Lee Zeldin as her permanent replacement.
“Pam Bondi led this Department with strength and conviction and I’m grateful for her leadership and friendship,” Blanche said in a statement.
“Thank you to President Trump for the trust and the opportunity to serve as Acting Attorney General. We will continue backing the blue, enforcing the law, and doing everything in our power to keep America safe.”
Blanche previously served as Trump’s personal lawyer during his hush money case.
Trum was convicted of 34 felony charges of falsifying business records linked to an alleged hush money payment to adult film star Stormy Daniels ahead of the 2016 presidential election.
