Trump Has Made the United States ‘Lawless’
On MS NOW’s “The Weeknight” Monday, Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) said President Donald Trump has turned the United States into a “lawless” country.
Host Alicia Menendez said, “I hear you on the fact that voters are concerned about affordability. You talk to voters, that’s the first thing they talk about. But in the context of all this kind of scaffolding, the rule of law is the fundamental thing about whether or not you win this race, you’re actually going to be able to be an effective governor, given the way that this president is trying to reorganize power here in the United States. So, when you step back, and I know you study the rule of law, given your role, you know, in this impeachment trial, where is the rule of law in the United States today?
Swalwell said, “This is a lawless America. The Department of Homeland Security should just change its name, because that’s not what they’re doing right now, which is going after our immigrant community. But we have to, as Democrats, make it clear to the Republicans, as we seek and intend to get into the majority, that they’re going to have to answer for this, and all is out in the open. Because I promise you, right now, they think they’re invincible. They let these ICE agents speak. They don’t think we have the means to hold them accountable because they look at the way we’ve acted in the past, where we didn’t show flexibility when we had power. And it’s not a question of retaliation, it’s a question of accountability. subpoena. a corrupt drug deal with the administration.
