Trump Is Using Starving People as ‘Bargaining Chips’

On CNN’s “Anderson Cooper 360” Friday, Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) said President Donald Trump is using hungry people as a bargaining chip during the government shutdown.
Cooper said, “I know you support the judge’s rulings today. The president says he has asked his lawyers to ask the courts for clarification on how they can legally fund SNAP as soon as possible. The deadline is tomorrow. I mean, the money, the payments stop. Is it clear if and when the millions of people who rely on SNAP benefits could actually get them back?”
Klobuchar said, “It’s absolutely ridiculous, Anderson, because on their own website, the administration’s website, the USDA, which they mysteriously shut down this week, they actually said that they knew that this SNAP contingency fund could be used in the event of a shutdown. In fact, they said that Congressional intent is obvious, that SNAP operations should continue. So I’m not at all surprised that these two judges, one in Massachusetts, the other in Rhode Island, said they could and should do it And So the President himself has now said it’s his honor to do this Well, his honor in Rhode Island, this judge has already told him he has to do it, ordered him to do it And the judge in Massachusetts basically said the same thing and said give us a plan on Monday. knows full well that people’s health premiums are spiraling out of control, and instead he tweets photos of his newly renovated bathroom with gold chandeliers and a marble bathtub. This isn’t where Americans are currently wondering how they’re going to put food on the table.
