On CNN’s “OutFront” Monday, Sen. Mark Warner (D-VA) said President Donald Trump has “never been careful about his words, his threats or his boasts.”

Host Erin Burnett said, “Both President Trump and the Secretary of Defense refuse to rule out having actual U.S. troops on the ground in Iran. Of course, the country has 92 million people. You know, based on your briefing, Senator, do you think there’s any real planning going on on this, that this is a real thing they’re considering? American boots, American troops on the ground in Iran?”

Warner said: “I wouldn’t pray, you know, and clearly this president was elected on the basis of stopping the endless wars in the Middle East. But I think sometimes, you know, we know the president says thoughtless things. I don’t think he thinks about it. But when the president of the United States calls on the people of Iran to take to the streets and take back their government, what if there are 100,000 protesters, tens of thousands of them are killed by the Iranians because they responded to the American president’s call to action, do we have a moral obligation? I don’t know I know you have to be careful with your words if you are president of the United States, and this president never cares about his words or his threats or his boasts.
