YouTube Music Adds AI-Generated Playlists
Google is adding a new feature to YouTube Music: AI-generated playlists. The feature was announced via an X post on Monday from the official Updates From YouTube account and is now available to premium subscribers on iOS And Android. It is not yet known whether the feature will be available on the web.
If this sounds familiar, it might be because you’ve heard Spotify launches similar featurecalled Guest Playlists, to its music streaming servicealthough it certainly looks like something Google focused on AI would have concocted its platform regardless of the competition.
Google pushed its Gemini AI in virtually all of its products since its release in 2023, although its presence has not always been welcome, with reviews on the constant Clippy-like offers to summarize information appearing in meetings and while reading emails. However, features like this, which let you create playlists based on exactly what you’re looking for, could be useful for music discovery.
How to create an AI playlist on YouTube Music
Creating an AI playlist is almost as easy as creating a standard playlist in YouTube Music:
- Faucet New on the Library tongue.
- Select AI Playlist.
- Describe the desired playlist.
Google doesn’t mention any limitations on creating AI playlists, so you can put specific artists in a list or simply describe the type of music you want to hear on a genre level, and the Gemini-based functionality will get to work.
