Trump Renames US Institute Of Peace After Himself

The State Department on Wednesday renamed the abandoned U.S. Institute of Peace in honor of President Donald Trump.
The U.S. Institute of Peace was seized by the Trump administration in March and Elon Musk’s Department of Government Effectiveness (DOGE) laid off its staff.
The New York Times (NYT) reported that the building has remained empty since. The agency is now called the Donald J. Trump US Institute of Peace, and the new title is already displayed on the installation.
“History will remember President Trump as the President of Peace. It’s time for our State Department to show that,” Secretary of State Marco Rubio wrote on X.

The agency is at the center of a lawsuit, according to the New York Times, as former employees say the president has no authority over the institute.
The Trump administration replaced the institute’s leadership in March for failing to comply with a Feb. 19 executive order requiring the elimination of “non-statutory components and functions” of the agency and other government-funded entities.
The agency’s X account was deleted in March.
