Trump, Rubio Yank Support From 66 International Organizations That ‘No Longer Serve American Interests’ – RedState

One of the things we’ve learned during Donald Trump’s second term is how much money and support we give to a seemingly endless list of organizations, NGOs, foreign governments, and think tanks that often don’t even support what’s best for America. Consider USAID, for starters.
On Wednesday, the president withdrew his support from 66 of them, saying they did not advance the American cause:
President Donald Trump signed a presidential memorandum on Wednesday ordering the United States to withdraw from 66 international organizations that the White House says no longer serve U.S. interests.
The White House said the directive directs all executive departments and agencies to cease participation in and funding 35 non-UN organizations and 31 UN entities that the administration has concluded are operating in a manner contrary to the national interests, security, economic prosperity or sovereignty of the United States.
The White House said this action follows a review of every international intergovernmental organization, convention and treaty to which the United States belongs, funds or otherwise supports.

When you read the list, you’ll be speechless at some of the entries, wondering why we supported them in the first place. Many of them – 31 – are affiliated with the United Nations, a body that often seems to work against us, even though historically we have provided a larger share of the budget than any other nation.
The list of entities we distance ourselves from is long, but you can read it in full on the White House website. Here’s a sample of things that make you say hmm:
- (i) Pact for 24/7 carbon-free energy; [Do they turn the lights off at their meetings?]
- (ii) Colombo Planning Council; [“Just one more thing”]
- (iii) Commission for Environmental Cooperation;
- (xi) Global Forum on Migration and Development; [this one seems to have failed in its mission]
- (xii) Inter-American Institute for Research on Global Change;
- (xiv) Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change;
- (xxv) International Solar Alliance;
- (xxvi) International Tropical Timber Organization;
Here are some of the UN entities that stand out:
- (i) Department of Economic and Social Affairs; [Social affairs like cocktail parties?]
- (xiii) Peacebuilding Commission;
- (xiv) Peacebuilding Fund;
- (xv) Permanent Forum on People of African Descent; [Is there a forum on people for Asian or Eurpoean descent? Not seeing it]
- (xvi) United Nations Alliance of Civilizations;
- (xxviii) United Nations System Chief Executives Board for Coordination;
- (xxix) United Nations System Staff College;
- (xxx) UN Water; And
- (xxxi) United Nations University. [I’d love to know what progressive slop they teach here.]
Look, some of these programs can do some good, I can’t tell you they don’t. But there are an awful lot of them, many of them appear to be duplicative, and at least several appear to be “work creation” efforts. Please remember that this is only a partial list.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio said many of the organizations we are abandoning are “un-American, unhelpful, or unnecessary”:
Today, President Trump announced that the United States is abandoning 66 anti-American, unhelpful, or unnecessary international organizations. Review of other international organizations is still ongoing.
These withdrawals fulfill a key promise President Trump made to Americans: we will stop…
– Secretary Marco Rubio (@SecRubio) January 8, 2026
These withdrawals fulfill a key promise President Trump made to Americans: we will stop subsidizing globalist bureaucrats who act against our interests. The Trump administration will always put America and Americans first.
In the future, these organizations. may be useless and useless at their own expense.
Editor’s note: Thanks to President Trump and the bold leadership of his administration, we are respected on the world stage and our enemies are put on notice.
