Currently, UL certification for electric bikes is only required in New York and Hoboken, New Jersey. “Peopleforbikes pleaded for model legislation, manufactured by the bicycle industry, which accepts both the UL standard and the standard EN for lithium-ion batteries and electronic systems,” explains Lovell. This model legislation is the law in New York State and California and will soon also be in Illinois.

To find out if the avoidance you look is certified by a third party, search for a sticker on the frame or battery which contains information on its compliance.

What is the DIN standard?

Cargo bikes have heavy loads – children, grocery stores, construction supplies and anything that can be transported on two to three to four wheels. Consequently, the brakes and other components of a cargo bike which allow him to stop safely and go require an additional examination.

“While Din 79010 is explored in Europe as compulsory, the United States does not intend to adopt this as a compulsory standard in the near future,” explains Lovell. But many cargo bicycle companies, such as Stern, voluntarily comply with the standard.

How will the prices affect my purchase?

“Currently, we are all waiting to see the final form of reciprocal prices,” explains Matt Moore, general and political advisor at Peopleforbikes. “Most electric bikes are imported from China, and the stacked rate rate is currently increasing at 55%.”

Very high prices, warns Moore, will force significant price increases throughout the supply chain, ending with the consumer’s digital portfolio. High prices supported will cause higher prices permanently, reducing the affordability and demand of consumers.

“Small businesses will be the least able to manage these additional costs, and some may be forced to leave business,” explains Moore. “Since electric bikes stimulate growth in our very competitive industry where global unit demand has decreased in recent years, higher costs and prices due to prices have the potential to be an existential crisis.”
