Trump Shares Behind-the-Scenes Peek at How He Got OBBB Passed – RedState

President Donald Trump, known as a great negotiator, shared a glimpse of some of the behind-the-scenes steps he took to pass the One Big Beautiful Bill while some Republicans were not yet on board, including making calls in the wee hours of the morning.

Speaking Tuesday at a Rose Garden Club luncheon with Senate Republicans, Trump revealed that the art of the deal sometimes involves calling four different representatives at four in the morning to convince them to vote for OBBB.

“It was the most important bill ever passed in Congress and what we did was a little risky,” Trump said. “We put everything in the bill, [Sen.] John [Thune R-SD] And some were against it. They said, ‘No, you have to make small bites.'”

“And we tried and we got him adopted,” he added. “I got a call from John, he said, ‘Ah, it was three in the morning. “Sir, we have four hard no’s. Could you please call them?” I said: What time is it, John? “It’s four in the morning, sir.”

“So, I’m calling, one of you is sitting here,” Trump continued, pointing to someone at lunch. I said to Jim: Can I say hello? It’s four in the morning. He said, “Sir, you have my vote. »

Trump said he then made a second call and, using a fictitious name, said, “Doug, can you vote? ‘You got it, sir,'” the person responded.

“Then I called another one. What about Josh? Can I have your vote, Josh?” he added. “Because I like Josh, and Josh, who can be very difficult, said, ‘Sir, you have my vote. His wife was yelling at him on the other side.’

“But I called people,” Trump continued. “And they weren’t exactly adamant. They wanted a little attention, unfortunately, at four in the morning. Sometimes I like people who don’t like attention, but we’ll do it however we can. And we got him adopted, didn’t we, John, and no one thought that could happen….”

At one point, the US President also called out Democrats who he said spread fake news about his OBBB, pointing out that its passage amounted to “the biggest tax cut in history” and much more.

“[Democrats] say “This brings death!” Now, if I’m a regular person and I hear that, I say, “That’s terrible!” but it is the opposite: it brings life! » Trump said. “It brings Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security. This secures all these things. »

Trump also reacted to the fact that Schumer’s shutdown was on the 21st day. Speaking at the luncheon, he made clear that he and Republicans “won’t allow themselves to be extorted” by Democrats, as my RedState colleague Bonchie reported.

Editor’s note: The Schumer ruling is here. Rather than putting the American people first, Chuck Schumer and radical Democrats forced a government shutdown on health care for illegal immigrants. They own that.
