Trump suggests US will buy Argentinian beef to bring down prices for American consumers

ON BOARD AIR FORCE ONE — ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Donald Trump said Sunday that the United States could buy beef from Argentina in an effort to lower prices for American consumers.
“We would buy beef from Argentina,” he told reporters aboard Air Force One on a flight from Florida to Washington. “If we do that, it will lower the prices of our beef. »
Trump promised earlier this week to address the problem as part of his efforts to bring inflation under control.
U.S. beef prices have remained stubbornly high for a variety of reasons, including drought and reduced imports from Mexico due to a carnivorous pest in that country’s cattle herds.
Trump has sought to help Argentina prop up its collapsing currency with a $20 billion credit swap line and additional financing from sovereign wealth funds and the private sector in the run-up to midterm elections for his close ally, President Javier Milei.
