Trump tariffs and green energy rollbacks push household electricity bills up 10% | Energy industry

Household electricity bills have increased by 10% since Donald Trump returned to the White House, revealed a new report, with his authors highlighting the impact of the president’s data boosterism and cuts in clean energy projects in the context of the cause.
The analysis comes as the Secretary of the United States of Energy, Chris Wright, said that he knew that the increase in energy prices could be a political challenge for the GOP before the mid-term elections of next year, but the Democrats said that the Democrats were to blame for cost increase.
“The momentum of Obama-Biden policies, for sure, destruction will continue in the years to come,” he told Politico in an interview published on Tuesday. “This momentum increases prices right now. And who will be blamed? We are going to be blamed because we are in power.”
Trump has repeatedly promised to reduce public service bills. And in his politico interview, Wright insisted that the Trump administration war against renewable energies does not inflate electricity costs.
But studies have shown that Trump pro-fossil and anti-renewable energy policies will increase prices. A July Report by Climate Thinktank Energy Innovation, for example, revealed that the expenses of the Republicans that the president signed last month could increase the prices of electricity roughly up to 74%, largely due to his repeal of many green energy incentives in the Biden era.
According to the new Advocacy Group Climate Power report, which is based on an analysis of the US Energy Information Administration data, these price increases are already starting to settle.
“The Republicans feed an energy crisis and inflict a huge hike on the Americans of the Americans across the country,” said Climate Power’s main advisor, Jesse Lee. “It is nothing less than a betrayal of their own voters. Families lose jobs while their bills climb, all because Republicans prefer to protect their donors to reduce costs. ”
Reached to comment, the spokesman for the Ministry of Energy, Ben Dietderich, said: “While groups of radical activists could still try to peddle nonsense, the American people elected President Trump to restore common sense energy policies and that is exactly what we do”, adding that in 2024, the United States obtained 82% of his energy from Hydrocarbons and only 3% renewable energies.
“In addition to higher energy prices and a less reliable network more subject to power outages, there is very little to show for the rebellious green swindle expenses of the previous administration which cost hundreds of billions of dollars,” he said.
The average household energy price increased by around 10%, going from 15.95 cents per kWh in January 2025 to 17.47 cents per kWh in May 2025, Climate Power found. Household gas prices increased by 56% over the same period.
Electricity prices were 6% higher in May 2025 than in the same month of last year, while gas prices increased by 8% over the same period.
Some regions have experienced even higher cost peaks. In New Jersey, the prices soaring 20% in June.

Among the reasons for the increase are the new prices of Trump, as well as its undervaluation of inexpensive renewable energy sources such as wind and solar. The increase in energy demand motivated by data centers for artificial intelligence – which Trump has promoted – also plays a role, according to the report, as is the increase in temperatures in the middle of the climate crisis, to which federal officials contribute to their deregulation policies.
More recent anti-environmental measures of the administration threaten prices further increase, according to Climate Power. Last week, for example, the Treasury Department published a rewriting of norms for several decades on the way in which renewable energy projects can qualify for cost reduction credits, potentially threatening the viability of many clean energy developments.
Although the president has promised to stimulate employment growth, these policies also reduce employment, the new report has noted: since his election, 64,000 jobs in the renewable energies sectors have already been cut or interrupted.
“Companies have canceled, delayed or licensed staff at 123 energy projects in 33 states, which represents more than $ 33.87 billion lost in investment,” said the report, adding that invisibility will also continue to increase public services prices.
“Families lose jobs while their bills are climbing, all because Republicans prefer to protect their donors only from lower costs,” said Lee. “This report details how much this bill harms the Americans – and we will make sure they know who to blame when they open higher public service bills this month.”
