Trump Tax Cuts Now Kicking in Bigly – RedState

Speaking to the White House press corps on Tuesday, Trump administration press secretary Karoline Leavitt presented figures from the current tax filing season on how much American taxpayers are saving and which parts of the One Big Beautiful Bill are helping them. It’s a pretty comprehensive list.

The press officer reports:

Americans will begin to benefit from the fruits of President Trump and the Republicans’ labor with the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill and these historic tax cuts. We’re halfway through tax season, so just to provide an update from the Treasury Department, which just came out a few moments ago, almost 63 and a half million tax returns have been processed so far. 45 percent of the total expected number of tax returns by April 15, so don’t forget to file your taxes, my friends. And the average reimbursement this year is more than $3,700. We know that more than 27.5 million people who have filed their taxes so far have claimed at least one of President Trump’s new tax cuts.

More than three and a half million returns reported no tax on tips. More than 15.5 million returns reported no overtime tax. More than 9.2 million returns claimed the enhanced deduction for seniors. And more than 690,000 reported no taxes on auto loan interest, and another astonishing statistic, nearly 3.5 million Trump accounts have been opened so far for children in our country. So we’re looking forward, I know the Treasury Department continues to look forward to seeing these checks go out and into the pockets of hard-working Americans, and the President will meet them himself tomorrow on the road to Ohio and Kentucky, and we look forward to seeing you all there.

These are not shabby numbers at all.

Of course, there are a few things that were definitely compromises that aren’t mentioned; for example, the tax deduction for auto loans only applied to the purchase of a new car or truck from a showroom. Trust me, I bought a 2022 F-350 in 2025 and I don’t get any interest deduction on that loan. Plus, a $3,700 refund per deposit isn’t really as good as it seems; Firstly, ideally a taxpayer should have their deductions/payments and filing set so that they are within a few dollars anyway. After all, a tax refund is simply getting your own money back, money that the federal government has been holding, interest-free, for most of the year.

Certainly, there have been a lot of changes to the tax code this fiscal year, and people have been working hard to get back to that desirable level.

Still, it’s a good example of how the Trump administration has much to brag about. Economic issues, more than anything else, are likely to sway voters in this fall’s midterm elections, and having a little more money in the wallet never hurts voters’ perception of the party in power.

Editor’s note: The 2026 midterm elections will determine the fate of President Trump’s America First agenda. Republicans must maintain control of both houses of Congress.
