US President Donald Trump warned that countries that join the BRICS Alliance policies that go against American interests will be affected by an additional 10%rate.

Trump has long criticized Brics, an organization whose members include China, Russia and India, which has been designed to stimulate the international position of the countries and challenge American and Western Europe.

“Any country aligning the anti-American policies of the BRICS will be billed an additional 10%rate. There will be no exceptions to this policy,” wrote Trump on social networks.

A deadline for countries to agree that a tariff agreement with the United States was established on July 9, but US officials now say that they will start on August 1.

So far, the United States has only concluded trade agreements with the United Kingdom and Vietnam. However, Great Britain and America have still not concluded an agreement on taxes for the United Kingdom Steel imported by the United States.

Since taking office in January, Trump has announced a series of import taxes on goods from other countries – arguing that they will stimulate American manufacturing and protect jobs.

In April, on what he called the “Liberation Day”, he announced a wave of new taxes on goods from countries around the world, although he quickly suspended his most aggressive plans to allow three months of talks until July 9.

When asked if taxes would change on July 9 or August 1, Trump said on Sunday: “These will be prices, prices will be prices.”

He added that between 10 and 15 letters would be sent to countries on Monday advising them on the new rate rate if an agreement had not been concluded.

US Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick said the taxes will come into force on August 1.

On Sunday, the secretary of the Treasury, Scott Bessent, told CNN: “President Trump was going to send letters to some of our business partners saying that if you do not move things, then on August 1, you will come back to the level of April 2.”

Trump’s threat to countries working with the BRICS nations emerged after members criticized American tariff policies and offer reforms to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and how the main currencies are assessed.

Last year, the list of members of the BRICS extended beyond Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa to include Egypt, Ethiopia, Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

Bloc countries represent More than half of the world’s population.

The leaders of the BRICS, who hold a two-day meeting in Rio de Janeiro, called for world institutions reforms and positioned the alliance as a diplomacy platform in the midst of commercial conflicts and geopolitical tensions.

On Sunday, a joint statement from the BRICS finance ministers criticized the prices as a threat to the global economy, bringing “uncertainty in international economic and commercial activities”.

Andrew Wilson, deputy secretary general of international trade chambers, said that it would be difficult for countries to move away from doing business with China.

He said to the BBC Teday program: “Singering it from China … in a number of sectors is much more difficult to achieve in the world in practice.

“You look at the domination of China in a number of sectors – EV, batteries [and] Particularly land and loving, there are no viable alternatives to Chinese production. “”

During the BRICS meeting in Brazil, the leaders also condemned military strikes on Iran in June, saying that attacks were a violation of international law.

More than 12 days, Israel and the United States have struck goals in Iran, including its nuclear installations before the cease-fire was agreed.

The BRICS summit was followed in person by world leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and South African President Cyril Ramaphosa.

Chinese President Xi Jinping missed the event for the first time, Prime Minister Li Qiang standing for him.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, who has an arrest warrant against the International Criminal Court against him for alleged war crimes in Ukraine, attended online.

In 2024, Trump threatened 100% prices on Brics countries if they advanced with their own currency to compete with the US dollar.
