Farmers Do Need Legal Immigrants Processed Faster, Support Lack of Illegal Migration

On Fox Business Network’s “The Bottom Line” Tuesday, Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) said Yuma-area winter vegetable growers don’t want illegal immigration, but “they have people who are legal and need to be processed a little quicker. And once that happens, they’re ready to leave. But they’re happy the border was closed.”
Co-host David Asman asked, “I’m just wondering what the economic effect has been, in particular, on these businesses in Arizona, many of which rely on immigrants, whether legal or illegal. Have they been affected either by the deportations, whether they’re self-deportations or not, or by the slowing of the flow of immigration?”
Biggs replied, “No, not really. In Arizona, actually, we need to create more jobs and put more people to work. But at the end of the day, I haven’t found any of the companies that I talk to that they would like us to still have an open border with illegal aliens. And I’ll give you an example: one of the largest agricultural areas in the country for winter vegetables is the Yuma, Arizona area. And they really want that closed. Now the only thing what they want is for them to have people that are legal. this needs to be dealt with a little faster. And once that happens, they’re ready to leave. But they’re happy that the border was closed. And why because people were crossing over and contaminating their fields and causing problems that way?
