Q&A: An ice core library in Antarctica may save humanity's climate memory

On Wednesday, January 14, 2026, the world’s coolest library was inaugurated at Concordia Station in Antarctica. Samples from glaciers saved around the world are now beginning to be safely stored there. This will, among other things, allow future generations to continue to study the traces of past climates trapped beneath the ice, as glaciers on every continent continue to melt at a rapid rate.
