National Intelligence Director Tulsi Gabbard played her previous quotes against the war on Iran at a House intelligence hearing — and was asked why they contradicted her current statements.

Democratic Rep. Ami Bera put Gabbard in the hot seat when he highlighted her warning on the House floor after Trump’s killing of Iranian military officer Qassem Soleimani in 2020.

At the time, Gabbard had disparaged President Trump’s assassination of Soleimani is considered an “unlawful and unconstitutional act of war taken by President Trump,” and he said it would make America’s brutal, forever wars in Iraq and Afghanistan look like a picnic.

“Director Gabbard, do you still believe that strikes against Iran without Congressional authorization constitute an illegal and unconstitutional act of war? » asked Bera.

“The cost of war weighs very heavily on me and my colleagues here… My own personal and political views, as I mentioned earlier – I have been asked and asked by Congress and the President, in this role as Director of National Intelligence, to check those views at the door to ensure that intelligence assessments are not influenced by my personal views,” Gabbard responded.

“Do you still believe that a war with Iran would be so costly and devastating that it would “make our wars in Iraq and Afghanistan look like a picnic”? » asked Bera, again quoting Gabbard.

“Once again, in this role, it is essential that I do not allow any of my personal opinions on any matter to color or bias the intelligence reports we provide to you and the President. »

Gabbard spent much of the hearing trying to distance herself from her past statements, while refusing to directly criticize Trump’s war.

“Director Gabbard…there is no imminent threat of nuclear breakout,” Bera stressed earlier in the hearing. “Have you given this assessment to the president?”

“I gave the president the intelligence community assessments,” she said. repliedrefusing to elaborate further.

It is obvious that Gabbard believes that we should not go to war with Iran at this time. If so, she should do like her colleague Joe Kent and write this resignation letter.
