On March 29, Kit Kat posted on Instagram that 12 tons of KitKats (approximately 413,793 bars) had been stolen between Italy and Poland. The chocolate bars and the truck that transported them disappeared and remain missing.

Nestlé is now searching for the diverted KitKat bars and asking the public to help find them.

If the thief tries to sell the candy, he may get tripped. Nestlé knows the serial numbers of the missing bars. Since the theft took place in Europe, candy sold in the United States is likely unaffected. These are not traditional KitKats, but special edition car-shaped KitKats developed for a Formula 1 promotion.

A representative for KitKat did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Stolen KitKat tracker

KitKat launched the Stolen KitKat Tracker on April 1, although it’s not an April Fool’s joke. To use the Stolen KitKat Tracker, enter the 8-digit lot number of your candies to determine if they belong to the missing group. KitKat will then provide specific instructions on what to do, including how to submit the evidence.

Brands don’t give KitKat a break

Other brands are already mocking the brand heist, with many using KitKat’s slogan: “Gimme a break.”

Hostess Snacks’ account cracked: “Ugh, you just can’t catch a break.”

Fashion platform Gilt says: “Don’t let our name fool you. We are completely innocent *wipes chocolate from mouth*”

Task Rabbit calls for help saying, “Taskers, gather together.”

And Tide Laundry also mocked the chocolate company’s slogan, commenting: “Tough break.”

Let’s hope the case comes to a conclusion soon.
