Two former Vols win first-round doubles matches at Wimbledon
Wimbledon Championships is taking place June 30-July 13 at the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club in London, England. Two former Vols earned first-round doubles wins on Wednesday.
Former Vol Mark Wallner and doubles partner Jakob Schnaitter defeated Sebastian Baez and Francisco Comesana, 6-4, 7-6, from Court 9 in the first round. The duo will next play on Friday in the second round. Their opponent and match time will be announced following the first round.
Former Vol John-Patrick Smith also recorded a doubles win in the first round on Wednesday. He and doubles partner Fernando Romboli defeated United States’ duo of Mackenzie McDonald and Alex Michelsen, 6-4, 7-5, from Court 6.
Smith and Romboli will also compete in the second round on Friday with an opponent and first serve time to be announced.
Wimbledon Championships is the third major of the tennis season, and has been held since 1877. The tournament is played on an outdoor grass court.
