Two Ways to Generate Secure Passwords on Your iPhone With a Couple of Taps

We regularly build ourselves towards a world with fewer passwords, thanks to Passkeys, but we are not quite where we must be to say goodbye to the chain of alphanumeric figures. Fortunately, it has never been easier to create a new password directly from your iPhone. In fact, you don’t have one, but two ways to generate a solid password in a snap.

Last year, iOS 18 brought the new application of passwords with it, which makes the recording and creation of passwords a breeze, not to mention the need for a third -party password manager for a ton of iPhone users. The application of passwords is easy to use and fairly robust in the features, but what happens if you hang on to an older iPhone that is not compatible with iOS 18? Don’t worry, you still have options to work.

How to generate a password with Apple password application

If you have installed iOS or iPados 18 and you simply want a way without frills and easy to generate a secure password on the fly, the password application can be everything you need. Here’s how to do it.

  1. Open the application of passwords
  2. Press the + Symbol at the bottom right of the screen
  3. Ignore the sections of the website or the label and the username, press the password field, as if you were going to type it – not the password label.
  4. A small “strong password suggestion will appear just above your keyboard. You can press the password suggestion to add it to the password section and copy it for use where you wish.

You can add a website / label and a username, as well as all the notes, if you want to save this identification information and not only generate a password. If you want another password suggestion, just press any other text entry field, such as the user or notes, then press the password field to get another suggestion.

How to generate secure passwords with a Siri shortcut

Using the link below, download the Pass a password shortcut on your iPhone. This will automatically redirect you to the shortcut app – Press Add the shortcut To download the shortcut to your phone. The password shortcut generated will then appear in your shortcut library.

Once the shortcut is installed, you can use generate a password to quickly create Apple style passwords, which measure 20 characters and include two range lines, a capitalized letter and a number (“Fevnaq-1zumki-Gorfoc” is an example).

There are several ways to use generate the password:

  • Siri: Say: “hey siri, generate a password.”
  • Sharing sheet: Press the sharing sheet in Safari or elsewhere, scroll down and press generate the password.
  • Shortcut: Press the shortcut generate directly in the shortcut application.
  • Press: Go to Settings> Accessibility> Key> Press And choose the scanned password shortcut. You can then press the back of your iPhone to run the shortcut.

The first time you run to generate a password, you will be asked to give access to the shortcut to your clipboard. Hit Allow To do it. From there, whenever you run the password, a password will be created and automatically copied in your clipboard. You will also see a notification showing you the password. Hit Do When you’re done.

The password will expire from your clipboard in 10 minutes, so be sure to use it relatively quickly, otherwise you will have to generate a new password. You can press any text field and hit Stick To enter the password from your clipboard.
