Prosecutors called on last year’s acquittal against Italian Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini for the blocking of an NGO boat to throw illegal in the country in 2019.

Salvini and his allies affirmed that the judiciary was embarking on the efforts of the law to criminalize the protection of Italian borders, as the prosecutors of Palermo declared on Friday that they were planning to appeal to the Supreme Court of Cassation in order to cancel a decision to erase the chief of the populist league in December, according to Ansa of the Public Public Ansa.

The case concerned the blocking of the open arm boat of the Spanish NGO of mooring on the Italian island of Lampedusa and the abolition of 147 illegal migrants in 2019 for three weeks. Prosecutors alleged that the actions of the minister at the time was kidnapping and had asked for a sentence of six years in prison.

The accusations were rejected in December after the judges of Sicily concluded that the facts did not justify a criminal conviction against Salvini, who argued that he simply filled the democratic will of the people to defend Italy against illegal immigration.

State prosecutors now argue that the decision to allow the Spanish boat to disembark “was not up to Italy” because it should have been determined by international law, claiming that national security was not threatened by the illegal authorization in the country.

Prosecutors said on Friday that they had deposited a by salim (by a jump) petition, which will allow them to use the Supreme Court directly without having to go through the standard call process.

Responding to the announcement of appeal, Salvini said by Rai: “I had more than thirty hearings, the court acquitted me because the fact does not exist by recognizing that the defense of borders is not a crime. Obviously, someone will not abandon, let’s go: I will not worry.”

The Allies also gathered around the Italian deputy, including the former Romanian presidential candidate George Simion, who describe The prosecution as a “judicial war” and “symptomatic” of a broader effort to target populist politicians, as was also the case in Romania.

Italian First Minsiter Giorgia Meloni added: “It is surreal, this relentless prosecution, after a trial of three years failed – against a minister who wanted to enforce the law – ended with a complete acquittal.

“I wonder what the Italians think of all this energy and the resources spent in this way, while thousands of honest citizens are waiting for justice.”

This comes in the middle of the continuous legal disappearance between Rome and the judges in Italy and abroad on Meloni’s attempts to send illegal migrants directly to detention centers in Albania, rather than allowing them to stay in Italy while their asylum claims are processed.

As in the Salvini case, the judiciary said that the national government should not have a final saying on immigration, in this case, in which countries should be considered safe for the return of the illegals.
