My Favorite Amazon Deal of the Day: The Sony WH-1000XM5 Headphones

Sony’s 1000X series has been around since 2016, improving on the previous iteration to finally land on the Sony WH-1000XM6, the best over-ear headphones in terms of audio quality currently on the market. But not everyone can (or needs to) spend almost half a thousand dollars on headphones. The WH-1000XM5 are from an older generation and were the best headphones in terms of audio quality until this year, when they were successful. They are currently $248 (originally $399.99), the lowest price ever according to price trackers, and they now come with free Sony WF-C700N headphones. To put into perspective how good this deal is, the WH-1000XM4s currently cost $100 more.

I have been a loyal customer of the 1000X range for many years; These are my favorite headphones for most activities. The WH-1000XM5 received an “Outstanding” review from PCMag in May 2022 for its top-notch audio quality, but also for its exceptional sound when using its best-in-class active noise cancellation (most headphones lose audio quality when using ANC). The headphones are also well designed to be comfortable during long sessions.

The ear controls use tapping and swiping, which isn’t my favorite, but that’s what all modern headphones are moving towards. There’s an app that comes with the earbuds that lets you adjust your EQ settings to your liking, including what the swipe and tap functions do on your earbuds.

A nice touch to these headphones that is often overlooked is a 3.5mm stereo connection, perfect for those who want to use a wired cable without worrying about battery life. Speaking of battery life, Sony says you can expect around 30 hours, but this will vary depending on your ANC usage. They are compatible with AAC, LDAC and SBC codecs and have a multipoint connection (you can pair them with several devices at the same time).

The Sony WF-C700N headphones normally cost $119 and are “good” headphones in PCMag’s review. If you’re looking for great headphones for audio quality with ANC with free headphones at a great price arriving before Christmas, consider this deal.
