We Have an Update on That Dem Fundraiser Seen in Viral Video Harassing Women for Taking Selfie With ICE – RedState

A treasurer of a local Phoenix Democratic group that raised money for Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes and Congressman Greg Stanton has resigned from his position on the Legislative District 12 board following a viral video captured by RedState showing him hurling vulgar insults at two young women during a protest. The incident, filmed outside a Zipps Sports Grill in Ahwatukee Foothills on Jan. 26 following DHS operations, drew widespread condemnation and forced Democrats to distance themselves from one of their own.

In his resignation statement, which he read over the phone to The Arizona Republic, Mark Holodnak said he regretted “the manner in which I expressed myself” and that “those words do not reflect my values or my intentions.” He added:

“I would like to sincerely apologize to the two people in the video. I do not want my actions to reflect the good work being done by LD 12. I have therefore officially resigned from the board of directors of LD 12, effective immediately.”

The resignation followed widespread outrage after recorded footage showed Holodnak and other protesters surrounding and angrily shouting profanities at two young women who had stopped to take selfies with DHS agents in the background of Zipps Sports Grill, a Phoenix-area restaurant targeted by federal operations. In the video, Holodnak can be seen chasing and repeatedly berating the women before they escape through an alley. The raids, conducted by Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) at Zipps locations across the Valley on January 26, resulted in the arrests of 35 undocumented immigrants as part of an ongoing investigation into illegal employment of aliens, identity theft and document fraud.

Holodnak served as treasurer for Legislative District 12 Democrats and was also active as a fundraiser and bundler for prominent Arizona Democrats, including Attorney General Kris Mayes’ office.

A previous RedState report showed that Holodnak was not just a donor, but a bundler who organized fundraising events for the embattled attorney general. Mayes herself has been mired in anti-ICE controversies due to her rhetorical warning that masked federal agents could spark deadly confrontations under Arizona’s “stand your ground” laws. Those comments sparked calls for his resignation from Republicans and law enforcement groups, leading to the resignation of his police liaison.

His office created a taxpayer-funded website where Arizonans can file special complaints against ICE and other federal agents, including submitting videos and photos of alleged misconduct.

As pressure mounted, officials in the Arizona attorney general’s office publicly condemned Holodnak’s conduct and stressed that they had no connection to his actions. A spokesperson for the attorney general’s office said: “The attorney general does not condone his words or actions in this video. »

The controversy also ensnared Democratic Congressman Greg Stanton, after a Holodnak associate revealed to RedState that Holodnak was raising money not only for Mayes but also for Stanton, deepening questions about the congressman’s ties to the disgraced fundraiser. Stanton strongly condemned Holodnak’s behavior in a text message, saying, “Regardless of the circumstances, this language is inappropriate. He should apologize.”

Protests over immigration enforcement continue in Phoenix, with demonstrations planned for the coming days. RedState will be on the ground covering developments in Phoenix as this story evolves.
