Unemployment in Germany stays above 3 million in February

The number of unemployed in Germany fell by 15,000 in February compared to the previous month, but remained above the 3 million mark, at 3.07 million.
Official data released on Friday show that compared to last year, there were 81,000 more unemployed in February.
The unemployment rate decreased by 0.1 percentage point to 6.5% in February compared to January. Compared to the previous year, it is up 0.1 percentage points.
“Even at the end of the winter holidays, the job market is not improving. Unemployment has hardly changed,” said Andrea Nahles, director of the Federal Employment Agency.
Business demand for labor has barely changed. The number of vacancies registered with the Federal Employment Agency decreased by only 1,000 compared to the previous year, to 638,000.
The statistics were based on data available through February 11.
