Conner Weigman and the Houston Cougars break 9 year drought with win over Deion Sanders’ Colorado Buffaloes

After a 4-8 season last year, many questions surrounded this season, if Cougars head coach Willie Fritz could bounce back. Many analysts have predicted that cougars end in the middle of the peloton in Big 12.

Tonight, Fritz and the cougars brought back part of this 2015 energy, starting 1-0 in the Big 12. With their victory over the Colorado Buffaloes and HC Deion Sanders, 36 to 20. The cougars checked the game clock for 12:49 seconds in the 3rd quarter.

Cougars QB Conner Weigman hit the ground with 83 yards on the ground and 2 affected, as well as the launch of 222 yards in the air.

This is the first time since 2016 that cougars have started with a 3-0 file. They broke a sequence of 21 games without overshadowing 400 infraction yards, including more than 200 yards on the ground. The cougars were also the second score attack in the country, behind Kent’s state.

The Buffaloes entered this match by starting their QB Ryan Staub of 3rd ropes, after the two QB Julian Lewis and Kaidon Salter had trembling departures during their first two weeks. QB Staub finished 19 for 35 with 1 hit and 2 interceptions. The Buffaloes fell to 1-2 the last time it happened in 2022 when they finished season 1-11 before HC Sanders hire.

Leaving this game, the cougars seem stronger than many people have come true and before this season. With a qb veteran balanced in Weigman, the cougars could make the race of the title Big 12 interesting. For buffaloes, HC Sanders must understand their QB situation if they still want to have a successful year.

The cougars have a week off to come, and after that, they will play at the Oregon State house in the week 5. The buffaloes will face the Wyoming cowboys next Saturday at home.
