A disruption of a system housing information on the flight of United Airlines which caused more than 1,000 delays was resolved, but the delays continued on Thursday.

According to United, the system affected, called unique, is home to flight information that is fed with other systems, including those that calculate the weight and balance and monitoring of flight times. We do not know what caused the problem, which was solved on Wednesday evening. While residual delays were expected, United declared that his team was trying to restore normal operations.

About 35% of all the airline flights were delayed and 7% were canceled on Wednesday, according to Flightaware, a website that follows flight disruption. Thursday morning, 4% of the United States for the day were delayed and 4% were canceled.

An alert on the Federal Aviation Administration website on Wednesday said that all the United flights intended for Chicago had been interrupted in their airports that were struggling. Flights to United Hubs at Denver, Newark, Houston and San Francisco airports were also affected.

The airline alert page of the airline noted that a technological disruption could have an impact on flights to or from several American airports from Thursday to Sunday, notably Denver, Newark, Washington, Houston, New York, Los Angeles, Orlando, Chicago, San Francisco, Honolulu and Guam and some in Europe, London, Frankfurt and Munich.

“Security is our absolute priority, and we will work with our customers to bring them to their destinations,” said an email press release from the airline based in Chicago.

The system failure, as the company described, lasted several hours, according to the press release. It was not linked to recent concerns about cybersecurity in the air transport industry. United said that he treated him as a controllable period, which means that he has paid customer expenses such as hotels if necessary.

The FAA said in a statement on Thursday that it was aware of the disruption of United Operations, noting that delays could continue when the airline is recovered.

“We have offered full support to help resolve their flight back and forth and stay in close contact with United,” said FAA.

United Airlines apologized on social networks and said in some cases that he would pay the hotel and other expenses incurred by travelers due to delays.

“Hey here, we apologize for the disruption of travel today,” the airline told a client on the social platform X. “Our teams work to resolve the breakdown as quickly as possible. Thank you for your patience.”
