Tom Homan Takes Catholic Bishops to School After They Release Video Attacking Immigration Policy – RedState
On Wednesday, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops released a video attacking the Trump administration’s immigration policies.

In the message, the bishops state unequivocally: “We oppose mass and indiscriminate expulsions of people. We pray for an end to dehumanizing rhetoric and violence, whether directed against immigrants or against law enforcement.
“We are troubled when we see among our people a climate of fear and anxiety around issues of immigration profiling and control. We are saddened by the state of the contemporary debate and the vilification of immigrants. We are concerned about the conditions in detention centers and the lack of access to pastoral care.”
One bishop said he was troubled by threats against churches and schools.
It seems like they swallowed all the Democrats’ propaganda arguments in this one video.
This is not a “blind” action, but an application of the law. “Profiling Questions” – from left-wingers pushing an agenda, but where is the actual profiling? What threats against churches and schools? They are doing what the left/liberal media does, calling “immigrants” as opposed to “illegal aliens” – which is an insult to legal immigrants.

They say they are advocating for “meaningful reform” – Trump did this by securing the border, which Joe Biden left wide open, thereby exacerbating the problem. Where was the concern about all the human trafficking under Biden that Trump stopped with his actions? Where was the concern about the children who were lost under Biden and who the Trump team is now hunting? Where is the concern for all those affected by illegal immigration? Where is the video for them? Where is the recognition that the people voted for the law to be enforced?
This is woeful ignorance, which will only encourage leftist attacks and demonization of ICE, even as one bishop adds that he also has a problem with violence against law enforcement. And I have to say that I’m a little disturbed as a Catholic by the use of Our Lady of Guadalupe at the end of the video as some sort of endorsement of their political commentary.
As CatholicVote, a conservative Catholic group, observed, what these bishops say is not a mandatory belief; this is the opinion of these bishops on politics.
“The responsibility to regulate borders for the common good is not a caveat added to an otherwise humanitarian manifesto; it is an integral part of Catholic doctrine,” Reinhardt said. “This is not a secondary or peripheral concern. As we argue, it is precisely the breakdown of the legal order – and not just private prejudice – that has created the conditions in which exploitation flourishes, cartels thrive, and millions of migrants are pushed into a dark world without legal recourse or clear prospects.
“The point, to put it bluntly, is this: A nation cannot honor the dignity of immigrants if it has effectively abandoned the rule of law under which immigrants could be protected.”
CatholicVote supported Trump in 2024.
Then Border Czar Tom Homan provided schooling for bishops. He added that the bishops tell people to “don’t worry” if they cross the border illegally and a judge orders them deported, because the bishops don’t like mass expulsions.

How can the law be applied this way? And of course, that was the problem under Biden; they didn’t.
Homan explained that if you send this message, then people will keep coming and you will enrich the criminal cartels involved. “A secure border saves lives,” Homan said. “We have the right to secure our borders, just as they have the right to secure their facilities.” I think he’s referring to the wall around the Vatican that protects the offices, gardens, etc.
Homan said we have a more secure border because of the message ICE sends: Don’t spend your money on the upcoming cartels because you will be sent back. “I’m not just saying it as a border czar, I’m saying it as a Catholic. I think they need to spend time fixing the Catholic Church.”
Some respondents to the bishops’ statement thought their comments might have something to do with the fact that they lost a lot of government money that their various organizations dealing with illegal aliens were receiving under Joe Biden.

Bottom line? This will not stop the Trump administration from doing what the people elected it to do.
