US Attacks Iran – TPM – Talking Points Memo

Immediately debunking Vice President JD Vance’s statement earlier this week that there is “zero chance” that a war with Iran would inspire “a war in the Middle East for years with no end in sight,” President Trump overnight announced a massive operation in the region and encouraged the Iranian people to overthrow their government amid the attack. Israel and the United States launched attacks, and Iran retaliated against Israeli and American bases in the region.

This is the part of Trump’s remarks in which he outlines the goals of the United States.

For these reasons, the United States military has undertaken a massive and ongoing operation to prevent this radical and very evil dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests.

We will destroy their missiles and raze their missile industry. It will, once again, be completely erased. We will wipe out their navy. We will ensure that terrorist proxies in the region can no longer destabilize the region or the world and attack our forces, and that they will no longer use their IEDs or roadside bombs, as they are sometimes called upon to so seriously injure and kill thousands and thousands of people, including many Americans.

And we will ensure that Iran does not acquire a nuclear weapon. It’s a very simple message. They will never have nuclear weapons.

Finally, to the great and proud people of Iran, I say this evening that the hour of your freedom is near. Stay safe. Do not leave your home. It’s very dangerous outside. Bombs will fall everywhere. When we’re done, take back your government. It will be yours to take. This will probably be your only chance for generations.
