US swimmers battling outbreak of ‘acute gastroenteritis’ at world championships | Swimming
The United States swimming team fights against an acute gastroenteritis epidemic that affected several athletes at the start of the aquatic world championships in Singapore.
Team officials confirmed that the disease was born in a training camp before the meeting in Phuket, Thailand, and compromised several performances when the competition began on Sunday.

The swimming part of the aquatic world championships takes place from July 27 to August 3 at Singapore Sports Hub.

The United States Swimming spokesman Nikki Warner told journalists that all team members went to Singapore, but refused to specify how touched by the infectious state. The championships mark an important test for the United States team as it seeks to bounce back from a disappointing performance at the Paris Games, where the Americans have won only eight gold medals – their less since 1988 – although enough to direct the Table of Medals. American men claimed only one of these titles and arrive in Singapore with what head coach Greg Meehan described as the youngest American team of recent memory.
