NYPD Transfers Captain for Daring to Say ‘Not My Mayor’ – RedState

You can always count on the left to be staunch defenders of free speech. Until someone disagrees with them. Then that person’s speech suddenly becomes “hate speech” or “disinformation,” and the speaker must be silenced – or re-educated. In the latest such incident of free speech suppression, the New York Police Department (NYPD) has transferred a veteran NYPD captain to what certainly looks like a punishment post after he spoke out against the Big Apple’s “democratic socialist” mayor Zohran Mamdani.

An exclusive New York Post article has details.

A New York police captain who was moved to a less desirable role after he was filmed criticizing New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani as an “embarrassment” has become a true folk hero with an army of supporters supporting him for speaking out about the radical socialist.

Polish Republicans and other high-ranking conservatives now support Captain James G. Wilson’s cause and defend his constitutional rights.

They say the department’s decision to ship Wilson from 94th The Brooklyn neighborhood — where he was the second-highest officer from Greenpoint Station — to the NYPD’s 911 call center in the Bronx is the latest example of a City Hall having two sets of rules: one for far-left comrades and another for everyone else.

Now I will say this: Captain Wilson may have demonstrated poor judgment in making this statement while in uniform and apparently on duty. But a matter of judgment does not deprive anyone of their First Amendment rights. And now, voices of reason on the city council are rising to defend Captain Wilson.

“If Captain Wilson had said something negative about Donald Trump, he would probably be declared a hero and given a medal and a dinner at Gracie Mansion,” said Councilwoman Joann Ariola (R-Queens).

“But ever since he spoke out against Dear Leader Mamdani, the manufactured outrage machine is kicking in and the radicals are coming out of the woodwork to silence public dissent. They’re doing just that, but more and more New Yorkers are starting to see through the censorship and understand what’s really going on.”

This is how the swamp works, and yes, there is the big swamp in Washington, DC, and there are smaller swamps at the state and municipal level, across the country; this is how the left works, wrapping its tentacles in every aspect of bureaucracy and maintaining an iron grip. Politicians come and go, but these swamps are much harder to clean – and they don’t like dissidents.

Surprisingly, some Republicans on the city council point out the hypocrisy.

Council Minority Leader David Carr (R-Staten Island) agreed, saying, “We have heard city employees make disparaging remarks about our president, sometimes about Republicans or conservatives and even entire groups of New Yorkers, without any consequences. »

“Even if a policy prohibiting political speech by public officials is constitutional, it is certainly not enforced fairly or consistently,” he said.

It was never intended to be applied consistently. This is not how the left works. The right tends to view policies like these as rules that apply equally everywhere, and where everyone is treated equally under the law. The left tends to view such policies as tools, even weapons, to be used against political opponents and ignored when applied to political allies.

Principles, not principles. It’s always like that with the left.
