Victoria Beckham ‘Never Talked’ About Her Eating Disorder Publicly Until Now

Victoria Beckham has opened up about her struggles with an eating disorder in her candid new documentary.

In the new Netflix document, Victoria Beckhamthe 51-year-old designer has opened up about the body image issues that have plagued her for much of her life, from drama school to her time in the Spice Girls.

“When you have an eating disorder, you become very good at lying, and I was never honest about that with my parents,” she said. Page six. “I’ve never spoken about it publicly. It really affects you when you’re constantly told you’re not good enough and I guess that’s been with me my whole life.”

The spotlight only added to her struggle, as her weight was constantly put under a microscope throughout her public career, particularly in the 1990s and early 2000s, when media and culture were particularly cruel to famous women.

Beckham recalled being called “everything from Porky Posh to Skinny Posh” during those years, adding that she began to “doubt herself and dislike myself” and began to lose “all sense of reality.”

“I mean, you know, it’s a lot, and it’s hard. I had no control over what was written about me, what photos were taken, and I guess I wanted to control that, you know…” she says in the document. “I could control my weight and I controlled it in an incredibly unhealthy way.”

Although this is the first time Beckham has spoken openly about her eating disorder, she has spoken out in the past about the media’s fixation on her weight.

“I had ‘Porky Posh,’ I had ‘Skeletal Posh,'” she recalled in a 2022 interview with Vogue Australia, by People. “After I had Brooklyn, there was a photo on the front page of a newspaper showing every part of my body that I needed to focus on to lose weight.”
