The search for a portable instructor on Amazon can overwhelm you with a torrent of choice of brands that you have never heard of. This could lead you to a slightly more familiar brand – like Viewsonic, a brand that has been part of the company for decades. There are advantages to play safely with a better known brand, such as USB-C-C connectivity and an easy-to-use menu system, but the image quality of the VA1655 does not stand out from the crowd.

The USB-C ports support power passage, which means that you can connect a USB-C power brick to the portable monitor, then connect the portable monitor to a laptop via USB-C. This will charge the laptop. Power Pass-Through is a practical functionality that portable monitors at low budget do not often include.

Unfortunately, the instructor has a mini-HDMI instead of full-size HDMI. It is a small disappointment because the mini-HDMI is much less common, so the adapters and the cables that support it are more difficult to find. However, an appropriate cable is included in the box.

The Viewsonic VA1655 has reached a maximum brightness of SDR of 239 nits. It is for most home uses, but it is far from the brightest in this category, and it will not always be enough to keep the display usable on a trip.

Compared to OLED alternatives, however, the VA1655 is in a very worse form. OLED portable monitors are more expensive, to be fair, with budgetary options starting around $ 200. However, it is worth knowing what an additional $ 100 will lead you.

The VA1655 is struggling with color performance. It only manages 67% of the SRGB range, as well as 50% of DCI-P3 and 51% of Adubergb. It is similar to other portable budgetary monitors, but it is much less than more expensive monitors. The VA1655 is better in color temperature and gamma tests. It has a default gamma curve which roughly follows the target value of 2.2 and a default color temperature of 6700K, which is just a little cooler than the target of 6500K. The variance in color temperature will be noticeable to critical viewers, but it does not stand out immediately.

Sharp is an advantage for the VA1655. The 1920 × 1080 resolution on a 15.6 -inch panel operates at around 140 pixels per inch. It is much sharper than a 27 -inch 1440p monitor, but not as clear as a 27 -inch 4K screen. In any case, the image is clear and clear.

The viewing angles are also decent. The Viewsonic VA1655 does not support HDR. It may seem disappointing, but the budgetary portable monitors who claim HDR support are, without exception, full of Baloney. In this sense, the lack of HDR is an advantage. Viewsonic is not trying to get one out of customers.

The performance of the movement is modest. The monitor has a 60 Hz refresh rate, cites a gray to gray pixel response time of 7 milliseconds and does not support adaptive synchronization. This means that 3D games will be vague in motion, at least compared to a game instructor with a refresh rate of 144 Hz (or better).

However, a 60 Hz refresh rate is typical at this price. Players will have to stretch their budget for a portable instructor like the Z1FC Arzopa, which has a refresh rate of 144 Hz (although even lack of adaptive synchronization).

Should you buy the Viewsonic VA1655?

The Viewsonic VA1655 is a passable entry into the highly competitive portable monitor area. It has some advantages compared to most budget alternatives such as an integrated crutch, a USB-C load with Power Pass-Through and a higher menu system. However, these advantages are countered by the bulky design of the VA1655. The image quality of the monitor is also modest and paid by cheaper peers.
