If Trump Cures AIDS, He Becomes ‘Greatest President Ever’ – RedState

In an interview last week with Variety magazine, Sir Elton John made a suggestion for President Donald Trump, one that Elton said could make Donald Trump the greatest president of all time – and also threw some applause in Trump’s direction.
The “Tiny Dancer” spoke with Variety on Tuesday about his name, AIDS Foundation, and the support he has received from Republican lawmakers such as Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., in the past. From there, he encouraged the Trump administration to continue its efforts to achieve the goal of eradicating the disease.
“Bipartisanship makes sense,” John said. “To see us come this far thanks to medical and scientific advances, and to think that this is the only disease that can be completely cured in a lifetime. President Trump may have solved the problem of peace. If he wants to become one of the greatest presidents in history… if he ended AIDS, that would truly be a feather in his cap.”
President Trump, according to Elton John, “…may have solved the problem of peace.” Well, peace isn’t really a problem, it’s more of a desired outcome, but you understand its meaning. Some of us understand that peace is a time to prepare for the next war, but Sir Elton is probably not a great student of the history of conflict.
Last year, my colleague Nick Arama at RedState brought us another Variety story and another unexpected praise for President Trump.

Nick wrote:
As our sister site Twitchy noted, John was interviewed by Variety when they asked him if Trump was referring to his song “Rocket Man” in relation to North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. The reporter began by saying, “I know you’re not a Donald Trump supporter.” so it looked like he was trying to get Elton to take a shot at Trump. Except that’s not what he got.
Elton John on his reaction to Donald Trump calling Kim Jong Un “Little Rocket Man”: “I laughed, I thought it was great… I’ve always been friendly with him and I thank him for his support. When he did that, I just thought it was hilarious.” https://t.co/QXV9VqAtuT pic.twitter.com/MNhsNzFwlR

Sir Elton appears to be something other than the usual range of empty-headed celebrities.

Curing AIDS is not as simple as it seems, nor is it the priority it was 40 years ago. In the 1980s, AIDS, the HIV virus, was a death sentence. Nowadays, it is a long-term illness, a chronic progressive illness that one can live with for many years. It’s still a serious illness, but it has a lot of company.
The problem is that the HIV virus is a nimble little fool. The virus is divided into 4 major groups, one of which, group M, is responsible for the vast majority of infections. Group M has nine variants. Some are more important than others in various parts of the world. A vaccine should cover all groups, all variants – or there would need to be a vaccine for each variant.
As of this writing, there is no post-infection cure for AIDS. There are therapies, but no cure. But it can be managed, and daily retrovirals can lead to what’s called a “functional cure,” in which a person with AIDS can live a normal lifespan, or at least, most of their life.
As for President Trump: he has a lot on his plate and it seems likely that AIDS is not a high priority. It is a safe bet that he will continue to work on the “problem of peace”.
Editor’s Note: President Trump is leading America into the ‘gilded age’ as Democrats desperately try to stop him.
