Want to Buy a New iPhone? Here’s Why You Should Wait

Apple sent invitations for its annual fall event on Tuesday, during which it generally unveils the next iPhone. Keynote is scheduled for September 9, which means we could see the iPhone 17 series in a few weeks. So, if you hang on tight, you can either mark the last device or get a discount on the previous models.

More recent iPhones tend to include camera and processor upgrades, as well as new features to make them more attractive. For example, the models of the iPhone 14 Pro introduced Dynamic Island, the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max began the action button, and the iPhone 16 series added the camera control button and Apple Intelligence to the entire range, rather than pro models.
According to leaks and reports, the iPhone 17 range, which Apple has not yet confirmed, could have a new camera configuration and new color options and, perhaps more, a thinner version of the iPhone to compete with similar offers like the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge. It will probably arrive with the recently announced iOS 26, which presents the greatest reshuffle of Apple’s software design in more than a decade.

Does the wait for the iPhone 17 are worth it?
Overall, iPhone upgrades in recent years have been relatively modest. And it is likely, based on rumors, that the iPhone 17 range will generally follow this mold.
But even with more moderate changes, it’s not the right time to buy a new iPhone, if you can help it. We are a few weeks before the planned launch of the next Apple smartphone. So, if you hold a little longer, you can hang this new flashy device when it falls, probably in September, on the basis of previous iPhone launches.
If you buy a new iPhone 16 now, you will probably pay the high price for something that in just a few weeks will be technically obsolete (the harsh reality of the annual phone exit cycle). And even if you get a good deal via your operator now, if you stay a little longer, you could potentially get an even more lucrative affair once the iPhone 17 deposits and transporters increase their promotions.
If anything, waiting to see what the iPhone 17 in store could at least help you confirm whether the most recent or an older one like the iPhone 16 or 15 is worth it. After all, if the differences are minimal, you might as well save a few hundred dollars by choosing a previous model. And the chances are – if the iPhone 17 is something like the last iPhones – no one can even say.
But what about prices?
A great stranger is whether the prices will affect the price of the iPhone 17, which could influence your purchasing decisions. While smartphones and computers have received an exemption from President Donald Trump’s most extensive tariffs, he recently said that Apple was still due to pay a 25% rate outside the United States. This would almost certainly lead to a price increase.

So, is it still worth waiting for the iPhone 17? It depends. If you plan to buy a new iPhone and I cannot wait much longer, I can understand the purchase of panic now. But keep in mind that you will probably pay the high price for an iPhone 16 model which will be less worth when the iPhone 17 drops. So, you could cough more for an iPhone 17, but at least you will have more blow for your money.
So what’s the best time to buy a new iPhone?
There is not necessarily a “better” time to buy a new iPhone, because prices are quite consistent throughout the year, but fall is an attractive option. It is at this time that Apple presents its latest list of iPhones and when carriers are impatient to attract new customers with many transactions and promotions. And again, even if you don’t want the last and the best iPhone, you can at least hang an older version with a discount just after the iPhone 17 falls.
In general, we recommend that you go to a new phone if your existing has more than two generations. You can usually eliminate more life from your device, but if you want to stay above the latest features like Apple Intelligence, the level of upgrade is the way to follow. And with only a few more weeks before the expected drop of the iPhone 17, you might as well see what fresh Apple A capacities in its sleeve.
