How to turn on Bluesky’s dark mode

Bluesky has gradually added more basic features such as drafts, helping it compete with other microblogging platforms such as X and Threads. Fortunately, dark mode is a feature that Bluesky has already had for a while, allowing users to switch to a darker color palette so that their eyes aren’t lit by bright light as they scroll through their feed.

Here’s how to enable Bluesky’s dark mode.

Blue sky; smartphone or desktop computer
Step 2: If you are on computer, click “Settings” in the left navigation bar. If you’re on mobile, first tap “≡” in the upper left corner to open the navigation bar, then tap “Settings.”
Step 3: Click or tap “Appearance”.
Step 4: Click or tap “Dark” to switch to Bluesky dark mode.

Step 5: Once activated, you can choose how dark Bluesky is by selecting “Dim” or “Dark”.
If you want to turn off Bluesky’s dark mode, simply follow the same procedure up to the fourth step and then select “Light”. You can also select “System” instead to make Bluesky’s color mode follow the global preferences you have set for your phone’s operating system.
