Watch out, laptop buyers – RAM-based price hikes could be in the cards soon and they might be big

It is likely that laptops (and other gadgets) will become more expensive due to price increases that will make memory a good deal more expensive in the near future.
As Korean site new daily reportsSamsung apparently confirmed to the partners that it increased prices (loaded to the manufacturers of devices) for the DRAM and NAND FLASH memory. This occurs in the fourth quarter of 2025, so from next month.
It is DRAM – Standard RAM modules for PC and laptops (and other materials) – which concerns us here, and the report indicates that the LPDDR memory should increase by 15% to 30%.
LPDDR is a low -power DDR memory that is used in laptops and phones (because it is more economical in power, as its name suggests), and it is LPDDR4X and 5X which should be struck with this price break (and LPDDR4 too).
Nand Flash is used in storage, including cheap EMMC discs often used in low -cost laptops, and price increases should be a little less alarming from 5% to 10%.
Analysis: a dark image for RAM
It is not particularly surprising to hear because we have already been witness to increase in memory prices this year, including reports around DDR4 RAM becoming more expensive.
Indeed, the production of DDR4 is being withdrawn (losing against DDR5 and HBM, where larger benefits are to be made), an event to which the new daily report refers when it speaks of a “tight supply” due to the reduction of the production of older memory products.
Samsung is not alone here either, with Micron having already announced price increases For Dram and Nand Flash – supposedly up to 20% to 30%, according to this report – and Sankisk also (10% in the latter case). Thus, given the Samsung speech with up to 30% of prices increase in certain scenarios, these are considerable hikes in theory.
The LPDDR4X and LPDDR5X memory is used in many laptops, column models to old -fashioned notebooks (which execute LPDDR5X), and therefore the cost of these RAM modules increases fairly will have an impact on the material note (the overall cost of manufacturing the device) for these laptops.
That is to say, of course, an increase in prices which will be transmitted to consumers with regard to the price of a laptop given on the shelf, and it is therefore a worrying index that the price labels go early.
Admittedly, perhaps not in the immediate future, because the price of these memory modules only increases with effect from now on (or next week), and it will take a little time to filter through the supply and production chain. But not so long, and the price increases on the RAM for the notebooks may well be in force before Black Friday 2025 – although substantial discounts are undoubtedly in sales (as always).
Although RAM is not the most expensive component of a PC (especially not in a Laptop gaming When the GPU commands a large part of the premium), it certainly has an impact – especially for the peak daily pilot notebooks that take care of the memory.
