The Pat Fitzgerald and James Comey Relationship and a Funny TPM Story

Here’s a fun little nugget about the Pat Fitzgerald/James Comey relationship.
You will recall that Pat Fitzgerald first came to the attention of the politically sensitive general public when he was a special counsel investigating and ultimately convicting Bush’s White House adviser, Scooter Libby, for the disclosure of the identity of CIA agent Valerie Plame. James Comey first became known to this broader, politically aware audience through a series of actions he took during the Bush administration, such as the so-called “hospital bed” confrontation over the administrator’s domestic surveillance program. Now fast forward to early 2007 and we at TPM were in the thick of the so-called U.S. Attorney firing scandal, for which TPM ultimately won a Polk Award.
