The repair of the ozone layer of the earth was a success, but a new study reveals a drawback: ozone warms the planet up to 40% more than expected.

Bill Collins of the University of Reading and his colleagues used a computer model to project the quantity of warming associated with ozone changes between 2015 and 2050, taking into account changes in humidity, clouds and surface reflectivity. If we continue to implement air pollution controls mandated by the Montreal Protocol in 1987, their results, which are published in atmospheric and physics chemistry, suggest that healing of the ozone layer will create more warming, canceling most of the climate advantages.

By 2050, they believe that ozone will be the second largest contributor to warming after carbon dioxide.

Researchers point out that repairing the ozone layer is always the right thing to do and provides vital health services; Protect people, animals and plants against dangerous ultraviolet radiation. Part of the additional warming effect can be reduced by reducing air pollution associated with ozone formation near the ground. However, climatic policies must be revised to take into account inevitable additional warming associated with the repair of the ozone layer.
