Ubuntu 26.04 Resolute Raccoon’s wallpaper has been revealed

Ubuntu Linux 26.04 LTS will be released in two months, marking the next Long Term Support version of the popular desktop Linux distribution. The update already had a nickname, Resolute Raccoon, but now its raccoon-themed wallpaper background has finally been revealed.
Each new update for Ubuntu Linux is named after an animal, going by alphabetical order. The last four releases were Noble Numbat, Oracular Oriole, Plucky Puffin, and Questing Quokka, each with animal-themed artwork as the default wallpaper background. The official wallpaper for Resolute Raccoon has now been unveiled, in both purple and monochrome versions.
Canonical said in a blog post, “While these curious little mammals aren’t known to use computers (yet) their knack for exploration and tinkering makes them natural members of the open source community. The codename ‘Resolute’, seems rather apt in capturing the creature and community’s shared determination and ability to press on in any circumstance. When you boot up Ubuntu 26.04 here in a few short weeks, don’t forget to embody that indelible raccoon spirit and remember that whatever your pursuit; be creative, be crafty and be resolute.”
The new wallpaper image follows the same pattern as all of Ubuntu’s other recent default backgrounds—a purple wavy background, with artwork of the animal in the middle of the screen. I wish Canonical would break from that formula and try something like the Hardy Heron background again, but at least the raccoon is front and center.
Marcus Haslam, the artist for the wallpaper, explained in the blog post, ” The raccoon’s natural contrast guided the choice to work in black and white. Limiting the colors to two tones sharpens the structure and enhances the form’s clarity. The tail, characterized by alternating bands, serves both as a character detail and a graphic device — establishing a visual rhythm that runs through the entire composition.”
You can download the high-resolution wallpaper images from Canonical’s Google Drive folder. That includes the different color options, and versions with cropping for phones and tablets.
There were also almost 200 community submissions for alternative wallpaper designs. The winners included low-polygon designs, anthropomorphic racoons using a laptop, minimalist images, and some nature photography. They will be alternative wallpaper options in the settings for Ubuntu 26.04 LTS, and you can grab them from the below source link.
